Catherine Musco Garcia-Prats
Catherine (Cathy) Musco Garcia-Prats is a wife and mother, a former first grade teacher, an author, and motivational speaker. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University New Orleans. Cathy and her husband Joseph A. Garcia-Prats, M.D., a practicing neonatologist at Baylor College of Medicine and Professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Ethics, have been married 50 years and are the proud parents of ten sons ranging in age from 47 to 29.
Cathy authored Good Sons Don’t Just Happen: Insights on Raising Boys from the Mother of 10 Sons. She co-authored with her husband Joseph the bestseller Good Families Don’t Just Happen and Good Marriages Don’t Just Happen. They lecture nationally and internationally, individually and as a couple, on parenting, family, marriage, and relationships. The Garcia-Prats family has appeared on many television programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Gayle King Show, American Journal and Primer Impacto. They also have been featured in many major newspapers and magazines throughout the United States. In 1998, Family Services of Greater Houston honored the Garcia-Prats family as “Houston Family of the Year.” Cathy and Joseph are the 2009 recipients of the “Standard of Christ Award” presented by the Jesuit Volunteer Corps South. In 2020, the University of St. Thomas Center for Faith and Culture honored Cathy and Joseph with their Faithful Citizen Award at their Tenth Annual Faithful Citizenship Celebration. In the Fall of 2022, Cathy was invited to teach a course on Marriage and Family at the University of St. Thomas’ Center for Faith and Culture.
Outside of her writing and motivational speaking, Cathy volunteered with her church, her sons’ school and sports activities as well as the community. She presently serves as President of Nativity Academy of Houston, a non-tuition, faith-based school for lower income families in the Gulfton area of Houston. She has served on the board of Family r Houston, the founding board of Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston, The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, and the Cenacle . Cathy and Joseph were sponsor couples for their parish marriage preparation ministry for 27 years.
